It will allow images of any point on Earth to be transmitted with high clarity.

The European Union (EU) has launched plans to launch a new European system of military satellites. European Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius told the EurActiv portal.

The European defense chief said in an interview that Brussels is compiling a list of military-ready private satellite services in the first stages.

"We will also look at the possibility (...) of using commercial data and see how we can integrate national assets and then build a completely new EU system in parallel," the European commissioner explained.

He said such mutual integration of private and public satellite systems is envisioned in the first phase. EurActiv notes that the European satellite system will allow high-definition transmission of images of any point on Earth with a maximum interval of about 30 minutes.
