Media: Ukraine Denied The US Two Questions
Marco Rubio and Rustem Umerov

The peace project is not agreed upon.

The talks between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Florida, which took place on November 30, have not yet managed to finalize a draft peace agreement, but the sides have made a step forward. An informed source told RBC-Ukraine.

The source emphasized that "the negotiations are focused not so much on the framework that was agreed upon in Geneva as on the problematic issues that remain."

"That is, we are not saying that we now have a 100 percent understanding of the final text, but it was another step forward," the source said.

According to him, the American side understands its main task, which is not to convince Ukraine of something, but that "whatever common denominator they come to with Ukraine, there remains the Russian side, with which they still have to work."

According to the RBC-Ukraine interlocutor, much attention was paid to the issue of territories. At the same time, the Americans, who see themselves as mediators in the process, conveyed to Ukraine the position of the Russian Federation, which demands a complete withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas.

The Ukrainian side, according to the source, argued at the meeting why such an approach is not possible: due to constitutional restrictions, public opinion, as well as inconsistency with the real situation. Therefore, Ukraine's position remains unchanged: the discussion on territories should start from the current line of contact.

Ukraine also conveyed to the Americans its position on NATO membership. In particular, the Ukrainian delegation said that the course for membership in the Alliance is enshrined in the Constitution, and changing it for the sake of a peace agreement is a bad precedent. Another argument voiced was the impossibility of granting a veto right to any country's membership in NATO.

We shall remind you that on November 30, the Ukrainian and US delegations at a meeting in Florida (USA) discussed a plan to end the war in Ukraine. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the talks "productive" but emphasized the need for dialogue with Russia. The Ukrainian side assessed the outcome of the meeting positively. The head of the delegation Rustem Umerov called the meeting a success.
