Because of the weather balloons.
On Sunday evening, the airspace over Vilnius airport was closed because of recorded smuggled balloons that flew from Belarus to Lithuania, the airport management said on Facebook. The restrictions were imposed from 6:09 p.m., and lifted at 5 a.m., writes LRT.
"Airspace restrictions were lifted at 5 a.m.. All operations at Vilnius Airport are proceeding as usual," Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) indicated.
"According to initial reports, the decision to impose airspace restrictions was due to navigation marks characteristic of balloons moving towards Vilnius Airport," the airport said.
"It is important to note that the decision on a particular flight is made by the airline. Therefore, passengers whose plans may have been affected should be primarily guided by the information provided by their airline," the airport said.
As BNS previously reported, due to the threat to national security following the appearance of smuggled balloons from Belarus, Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) asked the Prosecutor General's Office to initiate a pre-trial investigation.
