CNN: Maduro Has Agreed To Resign
Nicolás Maduro

The U.S. is demanding that the dictator leave office immediately.

Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro is ready to step down, but not before 18 months. The White House, for its part, insists that the ally of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin should immediately step down as Venezuela's leader.

This is reported by CNN.

The publication, citing its own sources, writes that Maduro and his associates have contacted the White House through a number of channels. Discussions are ongoing, said interlocutors in the US administration.

Maduro himself has signaled during previous talks with the US that he is ready to peacefully step down as Venezuela's leader. However, there is a nuance: he is ready to do so only after 18 months, which does not suit the United States.

The White House demands the dictator's immediate resignation, although at first some officials promoted the view that the option proposed by Caracas could be much better for both sides.

"Although some U.S. officials thought this could be a solution, the White House ultimately concluded that it would only support a plan that calls for Maduro's immediate resignation," the publication notes.
