Chinese Astronauts Stuck In Space

They can't return to Earth because of damage to the ship.

Three Chinese astronauts are unable to return to Earth after a six-month stay in space due to problems with the capsule on their Shenzhou-20 spacecraft. This is reported by The Daily Mail.

It is noted that the ship collided with space debris, the impact left a deep dent in the skin of the vehicle. The team fears the damage will make the flight to Earth unsafe.

The taikonauts are currently at the Tiangong station, they have been there since April. The crew is conducting scientific experiments, making spacewalks and living in weightlessness. The astronauts' replacements have already arrived at the space lab, departing on October 31.

The crew of China's Shenzhou-20 mission, however, will have to stay aboard the spacecraft for now and assess the extent of the damage to identify possible critical malfunctions before attempting to use the craft again.

The date of the astronauts' return home has not yet been announced. The operation was originally scheduled to take place on Nov. 5, but was postponed.
