U.S. Congressman Criticized Trump's Stance On Ukraine
Congressman Don Bacon

In dealing with Putin, the White House needs moral clarity.

Congressman Don Bacon (Nebraska Republican) called on the administration of US President Donald Trump to refocus its efforts on protecting Ukraine's sovereignty during peace talks with Russia, Politico reports.

He said the White House is sending "conflicting signals" about ongoing talks with Russian and Ukrainian officials, as bipartisan criticism of the initial 28-point "peace plan" grows.

"I would like the president to be a stronger defender of a free country, a sovereign Ukraine that seeks democracy, that wants to be our ally, and to have a little bit clearer idea of who Putin is, that Putin is an invader. He is a dictator. He has killed all of his opponents. But I just don't see that kind of moral clarity on the part of the White House," Bacon noted during an interview on ABC's "This Week" program with Jonathan Karl.

Politico recalled that the original U.S. "peace plan," which Bacon called a "surrender document," repeated many of the Kremlin's key demands, including territorial concessions from Ukraine and limits on the size of its military.
