The decision was made because of the risk of an explosion of a Turkish gas tanker on which a fire broke out after a Russian drone attack.
Residents of two Romanian settlements bordering Ukraine are being evacuated in the port of Izmail (Odessa Region) after an overnight Russian strike on the Turkish liquefied gas ship Orinda. This was reported by the Associated Press agency on Monday, November 17.
The strike was carried out during the unloading of gas. A fire broke out on the ship after the attack, but all 16 crew members evacuated in time and no one was injured. However, according to Romanian authorities, there remains a risk of the vessel exploding. "The calculation showed that (in a possible explosion. - Ed.) the radius of impact will be about 4.5-5 km," - said the head of the Romanian Department of Emergency Situations Raed Arafat.
For this reason, it was first decided to remove residents and pets from the village of Pluaru, then the measure was extended to the population of the neighboring commune of Chatalkioi. As a result, as Brasov FM radio station points out, 18 people were evacuated from the first village, while 300 people will be removed from the second. They will be able to return to their homes after the Ukrainian side reports that there is no risk of the ship exploding.
On the night of November 17, the Russian Federation also struck Kharkiv Oblast and Kherson
In the town of Balakleia in Kharkiv Oblast, residential buildings in the center of the town were under attack - two missile strikes were carried out on them, the head of the town's military administration Vitaliy Karabanov said.
