"This Is A Problem Created By The Lukashenko Regime"

Lithuania said its trucks were taken hostage.

Technical contacts with the Belarusian side regarding the Lithuanian trucks, stuck in Belarus, will be held on November 18. This was stated by Lithuanian President's National Security Advisor Deividas Matulenis, writes LRT.

"This is a problem, in fact, created by Lukashenko's regime. These trucks have been taken hostage and now it is proposed to negotiate, so I don't like the word 'negotiation' itself either. Tomorrow, most likely, there will be technical contacts with the Belarusian side. We have our vision, we will present it and see how they will react. <...> If there is goodwill on the Belarusian side, I can assure you that no one in Lithuania is interested in continuing the closure of border crossing points," Matulenis said on air on LRT RADIO.

Matulenis sees no reason to hold negotiations at the level of the Foreign Ministry, as he believes that we should first wait for the results of the technical meeting.

"Why should we move to the level of foreign policy? We have a concrete problem, it should be solved, and everything will fall into place. Now they are trying to frame the situation with all sorts of new problems, as if we are responsible for something, creating the impression that Lithuania closed the border crossing points for some unknown reason - the other side knows perfectly well why they were closed. Everything could have been solved within a few days, but it was not done. <...> On the other side, in the East, it often happens like this: a problem is created and then it is proposed to solve it. This resembles a certain activity using leverage to achieve negotiations. But today I don't see the need to move to any further negotiations. Yes, there will be a meeting tomorrow, let's see how it will look, and then our government will make the most reasonable decision," said the advisor to the Lithuanian president.

We recall that more than 1,100 trucks of Lithuanian carriers are piled up in Belarus. Lukashenko's regime does not let them out of the country and threatens to confiscate.
