Countries doing business with the Kremlin will receive 500 percent duties.
US President Donald Trump supported the passage of a bill with "crushing" sanctions against Russia and allowed Iran to be included, Reuters reports.
"Any country that does business with Russia would be subject to very severe sanctions. <...> They can add Iran to that," the US leader said.
The bill in question was proposed by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal in April. It would impose 500 percent duties on imports from countries that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products unless Russia agrees to a long-term peace with Ukraine.
The senators had planned to take action before the G7 summit in mid-June 2025, but progress on the bill was temporarily halted amid Trump's statements about settling Russia's war on Ukraine.
