Lithuania Will Limit The Amount Of Fuel In The Tanks Of Cars Traveling From Belarus

Vilnius wants to fight smuggling.

Lithuania is considering the possibility of limiting the fuel that can be imported into the country in the tanks of cars coming from Belarus. It is said about the limit of 200 liters. This was told by Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitekunas, reports Delfi.

This measure may appear in order to combat the illegal import of diesel fuel into Lithuania from Belarus.

"A significant amount of diesel fuel is imported from third countries, particularly Belarus, and we decided that this can be combated by limiting the amount of diesel fuel imported in tanks. This measure is similar to that used by our neighbors in Poland and Latvia. When a truck's tank has a capacity of one or even one and a half tons, this restriction can be useful, because it is no secret that fuel is not necessarily consumed during a truck trip," said Krystupas Vaitiekūnas at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance.

The Lithuanian Customs Department noted that 90% of trucks entering the country cross the border with full tanks, but when leaving both the Latvian and Lithuanian sides, their tanks are already half-empty.
