In Tbilisi, Protesters Stormed The Presidential Palace

(Updated) They managed to get into the courtyard of the building.

In Tbilisi, protesters tried to occupy the Orbeliani presidential palace. Some of the protesters penetrated the building's courtyard - its fence was actually torn down, reports "Ekho Kavkaza".

Special forces tried to defend the residence and dislodge the protesters using pepper spray, tear gas and water cannon.

Siloviks were allegedly unprepared for the first attempt to storm the building. Then additional special forces were mobilized on the spot.

The demonstrators and police clashed on the spot. There were injured and detained.

Local elections are being held in Georgia today, which are being boycotted by a number of major opposition forces, including former President Mikheil Saakashvili's National Movement party.
