In Tbilisi, Protesters Headed Toward The Presidential Palace

The capital of Georgia has been engulfed by mass protests against the backdrop of the elections.

Georgia is holding municipal elections on October 4 amid a political crisis and mass protests.

Simultaneously with the voting, the opposition organized a large-scale rally in Tbilisi, which, according to the organizers, should lead to the "peaceful overthrow" of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

According to "Ekho Kavkaza", the organizer of the protest in Tbilisi, opera singer and opposition politician Paata Burchuladze read out a declaration at the rally, which the protesters voted for. It consists of three points:

- Power belongs to the Georgian people.

- The so-called government has lost its legitimacy in the constitutional order, so its powers are terminated.

- The National Assembly announces a peaceful transition period that will ensure: peaceful return of power to the hands of the people, liberation of democratic institutions, immediate restoration of the European Union accession dialog, protection of security and peace in the country.

More recently, media reported that opposition protesters were heading towards the Orbeliani presidential palace.
