U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a massive celebration of the 250th anniversary of U.S. naval power in Norfolk.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced this in a Truth Social.
There will be a grand event on Sunday, October 5, in Norfolk, Virginia, to commemorate 250 years of United States naval power - "Salute to the Fleet".
The celebration is dedicated to honoring the courage and dedication of the men and women of the U.S. Navy. The first lady, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Navy Secretary John Phelan will attend the event. Trump said the event will be the largest in U.S. naval history.
"We will be celebrating 250 years of maritime dominance by the United States of America! It will be a special day for thousands of our brave military and their families," Trump said.
The president also sharply criticized Democratic Party leaders, particularly Chuck Schumer and Hakim Jeffries, accusing them of trying to derail the celebration because of the government shutdown.
"Radical left-wing Democrats have tried to destroy this wonderful U.S. Navy holiday and prevent the military from celebrating American naval history. But I believe: the show must go on!" - he emphasized.
Trump said preparations for the celebration have been many months in the making, and despite the political difficulties, he will not allow the Navy to be let down as its commander-in-chief.
Thousands of active duty service members, veterans and their families are expected to gather for the event. The program will include ceremonial speeches, a fleet display, musical numbers and fireworks.
