NBC: There Was A Conflict Between Rubio And Lavrov
Rubio and Lavrov

The U.S. Secretary of State said he would not waste time.

A conversation between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov ended in conflict. According to a Trump administration official quoted by NBC, Lavrov became "nervous" during the call. He reiterated Russia's refusal to agree to an immediate cease-fire before negotiations begin, a key demand of Kiev and Europe.

"The issue of the timing of the cease-fire is the main difference that exists now between Russia and the United States," said Andrey Fedorov, Russia's former deputy foreign minister.

Fedorov said it was during the Rubio-Lavrov call that "a conflict arose." Rubio said that he "does not want to waste his and the president's time if Russia is not ready to discuss a ceasefire along the current front line."

At the same time, Lavrov indicated that if the United States does not adhere to the "Alaska deal," there will be no further negotiations.

Earlier Reuters reported that Trump refused to meet with Putin in Budapest. According to the publication, the second face-to-face meeting between the Russian and US presidents broke down after it became clear that Putin was not ready for concessions and continued to make radical demands.

"The Russians wanted too much and it became obvious to the Americans that there would be no deal for Trump in Budapest," a European diplomat familiar with the situation told the agency. Another Reuters source said the Kremlin's position had not changed from the Anchorage meeting, with Russia still refusing to halt hostilities along the current front line.
