The deputy Belarusian ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the deputy ambassador of Belarus, who was handed a note of protest in connection with repeated and more frequent cases of airspace violations, reports Delfi.
On October 21 in the evening, radar detected a group of meteoprobes that illegally flew into the territory of Lithuania, which posed a danger to civil aviation and public order. Due to the closure of Vilnius airport there were direct financial losses.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the violation of airspace is a gross violation of international law and called on Belarus to ensure control of its airspace, recalled previous violations of this nature and demanded to investigate them and stop such actions in the future. In addition, the Foreign Ministry warned that if such a thing happens again, Lithuania reserves the right to retaliate.
We recall that Vilnius airport was closed on Tuesday because of the weather probes with smuggled cigarettes. It resumed its work only on Wednesday morning.
Prime Minister Inga Ruginenė said that if meteoprobes continue to be launched into Lithuania from Belarus, a decision to close the border may be taken.
