Ukraine Returned 185 Defenders From Captivity

Among those released are the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal.

185 Ukrainian defenders have returned from Russian captivity, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky reported.

About 183 of the returned military are privates, sergeants, and two are officers. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces, National Guard, State Border Guard Service, Zelensky said.

In addition, 20 civilians returned with the defenders.

"Our soldiers were in Mariupol and at Azovstal, ChNPP. Most have been in captivity since 2022 and are now finally home. Thank you to everyone who makes exchanges possible," the president wrote.

He said that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has already managed to bring home more than 7,000 people.

September 19, Zelensky said that Ukraine was working with the Russian side to exchange another 1,000 prisoners of war. He said that the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov had spoken with an aide to Russian dictator Vladimir Medinsky regarding the next stage of the prisoner exchange.

Umerov said that negotiations with Russia on humanitarian issues were continuing, including the issue of prisoner exchange.
