"AI Is The New Renaissance, It Will Make Movies Accessible To Everyone"

The "Mad Max" director believes neural networks don't threaten movies.

Legendary director George Miller, the creator of "Mad Max," said that artificial intelligence is not a threat to filmmaking, but rather will open it up to anyone who feels a calling for it. He compared AI's impact on art to the Renaissance, writes Variety (translated by Charter97.org).

"When oil painting came along, artists were given the freedom to correct and improve paintings. It was argued then, too, that true masters should not correct their work. But art changed and continued to live on. It will be the same with AI."

He says technology makes filmmaking "much more egalitarian":

"AI will allow movies to be made by anyone who feels called to it. I know kids who aren't even ten yet, but they're already making their own movies with AI. They don't have to look for money - they just create."

Miller emphasized that AI is "the most dynamically evolving tool for creating the moving image." However, the director doesn't believe that technology can replace human creativity:

"You can make a character that looks like Marlon Brando, but it will never be Brando himself. A machine will not reproduce the human essence."

Miller's last film, Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga, was released in 2024 and grossed $174 million worldwide.
