The operation is aimed at deterring Kremlin aggression.
Reconnaissance planes of the British Royal Air Force made a twelve-hour overflight along the Russian border to monitor NATO's eastern borders. This was reported by the press service of the British military department.
Two of the Royal Air Force's most advanced spy planes made the mission on October 9.
"Demonstrating the UK's combat readiness and NATO's collective resolve, an RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint electronic reconnaissance aircraft and a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft flew together nearly 10,000 miles - from the Far North along the Russian border, past Belarus and Ukraine. The mission was supported by a U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker from the 100th Refueling Wing, extending the range of the two British aircraft in a clear demonstration of transatlantic unity among NATO allies," the Air Force said.
The agency said the operation comes amid repeated violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones and aircraft over the past month, including incidents in Poland, Romania and Estonia.
The two British aircraft are designed to gather intelligence information using a variety of methods. This increases operational awareness and provides valuable data for analysis.
"This has been a massive joint mission with our US and NATO allies. It not only provides valuable intelligence information to improve the combat awareness of our armed forces, but also sends a strong signal of NATO unity to Putin and our adversaries," said British Defense Secretary John Healey.
The RC-135 Rivet Joint aircraft is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). It is capable of intercepting a wide range of signals, allowing it to eavesdrop on military communications.
The P-8A Poseidon aircraft, which specializes in anti-submarine warfare and can carry torpedoes and anti-ship missiles, flew a route focusing on the Baltic Sea.
