Pashinyan Declared Armenia's Independence From The CSTO

According to the Armenian Prime Minister, the CSTO security system turned out to be a bubble.

The failure of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to fulfill their obligations towards Armenia made the country independent, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the government hour in the parliament, "Novosti-Armenia" reports.

"When in 2022 we realized that the CSTO has not fulfilled, is not fulfilling and will not fulfill its obligations towards us, at that moment we became independent, as we realized that we can only hope for ourselves," Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan said the CSTO security system turned out to be a bubble. "It is just a tool to prevent our state from being established. In 2020, we did not realize all this yet," he added (quoted by News.am).

In February 2024, Pashinyan announced the "freezing" of Armenia's participation in the CSTO. In May of the same year, the Armenian Foreign Ministry warned that the country would not participate in financing the organization's work. Yerevan motivated its decision by the fact that the CSTO did not properly respond to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and was indifferent to Armenia's defense.
