Poland Extended Border Controls With Lithuania And Germany

To combat illegal migration.

Poland will extend border controls at its borders with Germany and Lithuania until April 4, 2026, the press office of the country's Interior Ministry said.

The temporary measures were introduced in July 2025 to combat illegal migration and have previously been extended, Reuters noted. The new extension will take effect on October 5.

"We are extending border controls with Germany and Lithuania to monitor the migration route from the Baltic states through Poland to Western Europe," Interior Minister Marcin Kerwiński said. According to him, Polish services detain people trying to smuggle migrants to the West.

Kierwiński described the key task of the border guard as maintaining the integrity of the border with Belarus and protecting it from migratory pressure.
