Zelensky Awarded New Ranks To Generals And Commanders Of The AFU

The commander of the legendary 3rd Army Corps became a brigadier general.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has made a number of personnel decisions by which he promoted the leaders of the country's Armed Forces. The corresponding decrees were published on September 30, 2025 on the website of the president of Ukraine.
The head of state awarded such new ranks:
major general to the commander of the AFU Ground Forces Gennady Shapovalov, who was previously a brigadier general;
brigadier general to the deputy chief of staff of the Ground Forces Command Yury Raltsev, who previously held the rank of colonel;
major general to the deputy chief of the AFU General Staff Evgeny Ostryansky, who was previously a brigadier general;
brigadier general to the commander of the 3rd Army Corps of the Operational Command East Andriy Biletsky.
In addition, Zelensky signed decree No. 730/2025 on awarding the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Gold Star to the deputy chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine Major General Major General Alexandr Poklad.
The document states that the award was given for personal courage and heroism in the fight for state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for selfless service to the people of the country.
On October 1, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Defenders and Protectors, expressing gratitude to the military, veterans, medics and all those who defend the state.
On Independence Square in Kiev on the occasion of the Day of Defenders and Protectors a minute of silence honored those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. At 09:00, people and transportation across Ukraine stopped to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.
