Ukraine Orders 180,000 Gepard Shells From Rheinmetall

The order is financed by Germany.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has ordered additional 35mm ammunition for the Gepard anti-aircraft mounts from the German concern Rheinmetall.

As noted in a message on the Rheinmetall website, the new order includes 180,000 HEI-T (high explosive incendiary with tracer) ammunition and was booked in December 2024.

The specific value of the order is not specified, but it is reported to be “a double-digit amount in the millions of euros”, and is financed by Germany.

It is noted that the ordered ammunition can be used to effectively combat various air targets, such as drones. They will be produced at the Rheinmetall plant in Unterlüss. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.

The concern also recalls that Germany has transferred a total of 55 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine. In February 2023, Rheinmetall received an order to supply 300,000 Gepard ammunition to Ukraine.
