Cybertruck Blows Up Near Trump Las Vegas Hotel: Police Suggest Terrorist Attack

There are dead and injured.

A Tesla Cybertruck exploded at the entrance to the Trump Las Vegas hotel in Nevada, USA, on Wednesday morning. As a result of the explosion there are dead and injured, the police are treating the case as a possible terrorist attack.

This is reported by ABC News and NBC News.

The Clark County Fire Department confirmed that it responded to a vehicle fire in the parking area of the Trump International Hotel (or Trump Las Vegas) at about 08:40 a.m. local time.

Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Touchstone said at a press conference that when rescuers started to extinguish the fire, they ‘realised at that time that there were several people with injuries around the vehicle’.

The driver of the Cybertruck was killed in the incident and seven people were injured. Officials have asked the public to stay away from the scene for now.

Police Suggest There May Have Been a Terrorist Attack

ABC writes that investigators don't know what caused the explosion. Specifically, whether there was something wrong with the vehicle itself or whether something external triggered the explosion. Determining the cause is the key focus of the investigation.

An official briefed on the investigation told the publication that the Tesla Cybertruck was carrying a load of fireworks-like mortars. The investigators are working to determine the motive and whether the driver intended to embed the explosion and if so, why.

Until a motive is determined and other reasons are ruled out, the police are treating the explosion as a possible criminal offence and a possible act of terror. The evidence collection and investigations are ongoing.

Reaction of Elon Musk and Donald Trump's Son

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, whose company makes Cybertruck vehicles, has reacted to the event.

‘The entire Tesla senior team is now investigating this matter. We'll release more information as soon as we know something. We have never seen anything like this before,’ he wrote.

Just half an hour ago, he said the cause of the explosion had already been determined.

‘We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by a very large amount of fireworks or a bomb being transported in the back of the rented Cybertruck and is not related to the vehicle itself. All of the vehicle's telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,‘ he summarised.’

Trump Senior's son Eric Trump, and executive vice president of the Trump Organisation, has also posted a message about the incident on social networks.

‘An electric vehicle fire was reported this morning outside the Trump Las Vegas Hotel. The safety and well-being of our guests and staff remain a top priority. We express our sincere gratitude to the Las Vegas Fire Department and local law enforcers for their quick response and professionalism,’ Donald Trump's son wrote.
