What is behind the flights of the "shaheds" over Belarus?
Ukrainian drones are increasingly attacking Moscow. In recent weeks, we have seen two massive UAV raids.
Did you manage to show the residents of the capital of the Russian Federation that the war came to their home? Taras Zahorodny, a political strategist and managing partner of the National Anti-Crisis Group, spoke to Charter97.org about this and more:
— The attacks on the refineries did not begin yesterday, not the day before yesterday, this is happening systematically, to be precise — since the beginning of this year. According to various estimates (the President of Ukraine showed these data), some equipment was already damaged at about 30 enterprises. The Moscow refinery is one of the targets in a series of strikes on energy facilities.
A year ago, Ukraine did not have the opportunity to hit Russia's energy facilities. There, oil depots are now being destroyed, which supply fuel to the front, and distribution networks are being destroyed, which make it possible to provide electricity to the Krasnodar Region of the Russian Federation.
I think that in the autumn-winter period these attacks will intensify, including on Moscow, to create prerequisites for energy collapse in Russia. Most likely, the blows will go to the compressors of oil pipelines and gas pipelines, which Russia does not have the opportunity to replace. These strikes are aimed at the collapse of the economy of the Russian Federation.
— Almost every attack of the Russian "Shaheds" on Ukraine ends with these drones flying to Belarus. Why is this happening? Has Ukraine got some kind of strong EW system?
— I think that this is more on the part of the Russians, because Putin wants the Belarusian army to launch an offensive on Kyiv so much. He is trying to persuade Lukashenko to attack Ukraine by right or wrong. Lukashenka resists not of his own free will, but because of the position of the Belarusians. The absolute majority of the Belarusian people are totally against any military action against Ukraine. This leaves an imprint on the state of the army and the understanding of Lukashenka himself that it can end very sadly for him. And he is a man of power, constantly fighting for power. Therefore, the flights of Russian "Shaheds" through the Belarusian territory are a way to put pressure on Lukashenka, to make him understand that he has no one to expect protection from.
It should be borne in mind that these "Shaheds" fly deep into the territory of Belarus, there was a case when one drone flew to Latvia, I think it tried to fly to Lithuania. In this case, I think that Putin is trying to make it clear to Lukashenka that he expects him to enter the war against Ukraine.
Let me remind you that Lukashenka recently made a rather seditious speech from the point of view of the Kremlin, when he began to say that "someone is persuading him to enter into an alliance with Ukraine against Russia." From the point of view of Russia, this is a front, it must be suppressed.
