It was mistaken for a UAV.
After an air alert in Murmansk region, the Russian military became so nervous that they accidentally fired upon a light-engine aircraft flying in the sky, mistaking it for an ‘enemy UAV’.
Pro-Kremlin Telegram channels reported that.
‘Two light sport planes (ATEC 321 Faeta NG and BRM Aero Bristell NG5) took off from a landing site in Apatity municipal district to Arkhangelsk... After take-off, the pilot of one of the planes saw that the second plane was behaving strangely and gave the mayday signal. Later it turned out that the second board was shelled from small arms,’ the report said.
The pilot was not injured as a result of the shelling, but the frightened Russian military damaged the wing and headlights of the aircraft with bullets.
