Sales of Chinese trucks are growing.
According to the results of the first half of 2024, MAZ has fallen to the eighth place in the Russian market. It was overtaken by yet one more Chinese brand, writes the "Belarusians and the Market" website.
According to the data provided by the "Avtostat", for six months, sales of "Maz" in Russia amounted to 2,575 units. This is 16% less than it was in the same period last year.
The reduction in sales has led to a decrease in the Belarusian manufacturer's market share from 4.9% to 4.3% and another shift in the ranking of major players. MAZ has fallen from the seventh place to the 8th. Belarusians were overtaken by the fastest growing brand in the period - the Chinese Dongfeng.
Dongfeng sales grew by 235.4%, while its market share - from 1.9% to 6.4%. This allowed the Chinese manufacturer to become one of the five largest sellers of motor vehicles in Russia.
The gap between MAZ and the Chinese Foton, which is currently occupying the ninth position, has also narrowed. The share of the latter has grown from 3.4% to 3.6%.
KAMAZ remains the leader, despite a one-third reduction in sales. In the first half of the year its sales totalled 10,724 trucks. The market share of the largest Russian truck manufacturer fell from 24.7% to 17.7%. On the other hand, GAZ sales grew by more than 15%. The share of this Russian manufacturer grew from 5.1% to 6%.
Russians and Belarusians continue to be squeezed by the Chinese.
The largest share among them is held by Sitrak company, which ranks second after KamAZ (17%).
In addition to the above-mentioned Sitrak, Dongfeng and Foton, Shacman (13.7%), FAW (9.4%), Howo (5.9%) and JAC (2.6%) were also included in the top ten at the end of the half-year.
In total, 60,488 trucks were sold on the Russian market in the first half of the year, which is 3.6% less than in the same period.
It should be noted that these statistics refer only to the civilian segment and do not take into account deliveries of Russian manufacturers and MAZ to the Russian Ministry of Defence and other security agencies. For example, with the decline in sales, which were observed, according to " Avtostat ", last year, the distribution structure of Minsk Automobile Plant in Russia "MAZ-RUS" set a record in revenue and net profit. MAZ-RUS ended 2023 with a 44% increase in revenue (over $570 million) and earned 3.3 times more net profit (over $2.6 million) than a year earlier.
