The “Russian World” ideologist used the words “revolt of the oligarchs” and “stabbing in the back”.
The founder of the aluminum giant “Rusal”, billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who spoke negatively about the war in Ukraine, has challenged Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the “Russian World” ideologist Alexander Dugin.
He noted that “the West was counting on a revolt of Russian oligarchs from the very beginning”, but so far this has not happened. “Some oligarchs have decisively sided with Putin and the people. Some are waiting. <…> And now Deripaska is making the first case of a direct gauntlet thrown at Putin, openly calling the special military operation “madness”, Dugin stated.
In his opinion, “in a critically difficult situation for the country”, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine broke into Russian territory, such a statement can be considered “announcement of opening another front” and “assistance” to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “Previously, Deripaska's positions regarding the special military operation were ambiguous. Now he has made up his mind. He is on that side. This is a stab in the back,” Dugin emphasized.
Deripaska called the war in Ukraine “madness”in an interview with the Japanese publication Nikkei Asia, which was published on August 8. He criticized Russia's defense spending, which has exceeded 10.7 trillion rubles (about 6% of GDP), and called for an immediate ceasefire. The businessman arrived in Tokyo as a representative of the Russian Federation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Council forum.
