Authorities Want To Collect Even More Data On Belarusians Abroad

A new law has been adopted.

On July 8, Lukashenka signed a law obliging Belarusians to inform state bodies about the registration of civil status acts in relation to themselves and their minor children in foreign countries.

Among other things, the amendments introduce a requirement “on informing the competent authorities of their state by citizens of the Republic of Belarus about the registration of civil status acts in relation to themselves and their minor children in foreign countries.”

Thus, according to the Civil Code, Belarusians abroad are obliged to inform the authorities about births, marriages, divorces, establishment of maternity and paternity, adoption, death, change of surname, etc.

The main provisions of the law come into force on January 1, 2025.
