Arab Governments Secretly Shared Intelligence Related To Iranian Attack On Israel

It proved decisive in the successful defense.

Arab countries secretly provided the United States with intelligence about Iran's attack plan. The Wall Street Journal writes about this.

Much of the cooperation Saturday night that led to the shooting down of the Iranian-directed barrage needed to be forged on the fly, and many details about the role played by Saudi Arabia and other key Arab governments are being closely held.

The operation was the culmination of years of U.S. effort to break down political and technical barriers that thwarted military cooperation between Israel and the Sunni Arab governments.

Two days before the attack on Israel, Iranian officials briefed Gulf countries on the structure and timing of the attack plan to enable them to ensure airspace security. Saudi and Egyptian officials said that immediately after Iran began openly threatening to retaliate against Israel, the United States began pressuring Arab governments to share intelligence.

The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia agreed to share intelligence, and Jordan announced consent to use its airspace. Iranian information reached Washington. It proved decisive in the successful defense.

The diplomatic issue of cooperation was successfully resolved, although Israel, for example, does not have diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia.
