Kazakhstan Airline Suspends Flights To Russia

After the crash of the passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines.

Kazakhstan airline Qazaq Air has suspended flights from Astana to Yekaterinburg for a month, the carrier's Telegram channel reported.

“Qazaq Air is forced to temporarily suspend flights on the Astana-Yekaterinburg route from December 28 of this year to January 27, 2025. The suspension of flights was carried out to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members based on the results of an ongoing risk assessment of flights to Russia,” the statement said.

Qazaq Air will fully refund the purchased tickets, the company noted. It will also offer free rebooking of flights to other destinations.

According to the schedule, there were three round-trip flights per week on this route.

The carrier will continue to operate flights to Omsk and Novosibirsk.

Earlier, the Israeli airline El Al suspended flights from Tel Aviv to Moscow for a week “due to events in Russian airspace”. Next week, experts will assess the situation and decide whether to resume flights on this route.

This decision is linked to the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane on December 25 near Aktau (Kazakhstan), which killed 38 of the 69 passengers on board.

Earlier, Euronews and Reuters, citing sources in the Azerbaijani government, reported that the plane that crashed in Aktau, Kazakhstan, was shot down by a Russian missile. According to media reports, the plane crash was caused by a Russian surface-to-air missile.
