US President Joe Biden has ordered the Pentagon to provide Ukraine with more weapons after Russia's missile attack on Christmas.
"In the early hours of Christmas, Russia launched waves of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The purpose of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity during winter and to jeopardize the safety of its grid," Biden said.
According to him, the US has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defence missiles in recent months "and more are on the way." He added that Washington and the international community must stand by Ukraine until it defeats Russian aggression. "The Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety," Biden stressed.
On the night of December 25, the Russian army carried out a massive strike on Ukrainian fuel and energy sector facilities. The attack involved various types of air, land and sea-based missiles, as well as Shahed-type attack drones and other types of drone imitators. According to the Ukrainian Defence Forces, out of 184 air targets launched by Russia, 55 cruise missiles, four guided air missiles and 54 drones were intercepted.
