An explosion occurred on the territory of the former Abakan Experimental Mechanical Plant in the Russian city of Abakan. This was reported by the Governor of Khakassia Valentin Konovalov on his Telegram channel.

According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, two people were killed and four were injured due to an explosion during welding work. Doctors assess the condition of the four victims as serious, Radio Liberty writes.

According to Konovalov, the explosion occurred due to a violation of safety regulations.

Deputy Head of Khakassia Yuri Kurlaev reported that pneumatic tests were being carried out on the site of the former plant, which is being leased.

“They were preparing a tank for water. They were conducting air pressure testing and an explosion occurred,” Kurlaev reported on his Telegram channel, noting that it is not yet known whose workshop was damaged. A criminal case has been opened for violating safety regulations.
