Poland Set Record For Number Of Migrants On Border With Belarus This Year

The year is not over yet, and the number of illegal attempts to cross the border has reached 30 thousand.

Polish border guards have registered 30 thousand illegal attempts by migrants to cross the border from Belarus from the beginning of 2024 to December 15, Radio Svaboda reports.

A high-ranking government official in Poland told the dpa news agency that there has been a significant increase in irregular migration this year.

For comparison, during parliamentary debates, Deputy Minister of the Interior of Poland Czesław Mroczek said that about 26 thousand such attempts were recorded in 2023, and more than 15 thousand in 2022.

The migration crisis on the borders of Belarus with Poland and Lithuania arose in the second half of 2021. Migrants from the Middle East and Africa flew to Belarus to illegally cross into the European Union. Polish and Lithuanian border guards have repeatedly testified that Belarusian border guards are helping migrants cross the border. The actions of the Belarusian authorities in the West have been assessed as a form of hybrid warfare.

The Baltic countries and Poland consider this revenge for their thought stance on Lukashenka's repression against the Belarusian opposition and civil society.
