Kaupo Rosin, head of the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service, said that NATO will need to deter Russia over the next 10-20 years
‘NATO's task in the next 10-20 years will be to deter or intimidate Russia so that it does not have silly ideas of pushing the West in a military way,’ Rosin told Reuters.
He said it is achievable, but the West must take the problem seriously and invest in defence.
The plans of NATO and national military forces, he said, ‘must be backed up by real resources, troops and ammunition. Only then will it be possible to deter Russia.’
Rosin said Russia will ‘try to limit NATO activities, NATO infrastructure and troop presence near Russia,’ including in the alliance's eastern flank states.
