Explosions Heard Near Russian Northern Fleet Base In Murmansk Region

Explosions have occurred in Murmansk region of Russia in the area where the base of the Northern fleet of the Russian Federation is located.

Residents of Murmansk and Severomorsk, located 12 km from it, wrote in the evening on Wednesday on social networks about two powerful explosions, waves from which people felt at a distance of several dozen kilometres. One of the explosions was caught on video.
Judging by the footage, the explosion could have occurred at one of the facilities of the main naval base of the Russian Northern Fleet.
The Norwegian publication of The Barents Observer notes that 13 kilometres away from the scene is the Severomorsk-1 military airfield, where fighter jets, bombers and squadrons of Ka-27 helicopters are based. There is an open arms depot 11 kilometres away, and a number of installations with mobile anti-aircraft missiles and electronic warfare antennas are located northwest of Severomorsk-1. In addition, the closed military airfield of Severomorsk-2, which began to be restored in early 2024, is located between Severomorsk and Murmansk.
