Donald Trump can push NATO member states to spend more on defence. We are talking about the commitments of allies to invest more than 2% of GDP.
RBC-Ukraine reported citing the statement of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte before the start of the European Political Community meeting in Budapest.
Journalists asked the NATO Secretary General about what Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election means for Ukraine.
"He [Donald Trump, - Ed.] will push us all to spend more on defence," he said.
Rutte agreed with Trump's criticism of Europe regarding the increase in defence spending. In his opinion, the Republican's criticism forced NATO allies to spend more than 2% of GDP on military needs.
Rutte also said he wanted to work with the new US president to counter the "new dangerous threats" posed by North Korea's entry into Russia's war against Ukraine.
"This is becoming an increasingly greater threat not only to European NATO member states but also to the United States, as Russia supplies cutting-edge technology to North Korea," the Secretary General warned.
