A senior Ukrainian intelligence official has confirmed this.
The Ukrainian forces struck North Korean troops for the first time after they arrived in the Kursk region. This information was confirmed by a source in Ukrainian intelligence to the Financial Times.
The strike on North Korean soldiers was reported on Monday morning by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.
A “senior Ukrainian intelligence official” confirmed this information to the FT, but declined to provide further details. He said that this did indeed happen in the Kursk region.
As the FT notes, Ukrainian officials and military analysts have previously raised questions about the quality and combat capability of North Korean troops, most of whom are described as inexperienced, low-ranking soldiers.
“We will soon find out how well they can fight,” one of the officials said.
