Storm Wind leaves 226 Belarusian Settlements Without Light

Weather forecasters have extended the orange danger level for Monday.

On Monday, November 4, power engineers of several Belarusian regions had to switch to a reinforced mode of work due to the storm wind. Last night it left hundreds of villages and settlements across the country without light. According to the operational data of emergency services, at least 226 settlements were without light in Vitsebsk and Minsk regions alone, writes ‘Telegraf’.

According to the Ministry of Energy as of 9:00, November 4, the work to restore power supply continued in 226 other settlements, affected by the weather. The following districts of Vitsebsk and Minsk regions suffered the most last night:

- Polatsk,

- Rassony,

- Verkhniadzvinsk,

- Ushachy,

- Haradok.

Emergency services recorded dozens of cases of falling trees on power lines, broken wires and damage to transmission towers, and since the weather conditions only worsened in the morning, the power engineers of Vitsebsk region decided to switch to an enhanced mode of operation and send emergency crews from Minsk and Mahiliou regions to help them.

In connection with mass blackouts in distribution networks, Vitsebskenerha also introduced a special mode of operation and prepared backup power supplies.

Rescuers also had to come to eliminate the consequences of falling trees in Minsk region over the past day. One of the trees in Minsk district, on the M-6 highway, near the village of Tarasovo, fell directly on the truck, damaging the tarpaulin of the trailer.

Meanwhile, forecasters extended the orange danger level on Monday, November 4. According to the operational data of Belhidramet, storm wind with gusts of 15-20 m/s, in some places up to 21-24 m/s (that is, almost up to 90 km/h) will remain in most of the territory - in Minsk, Mahiliou, Vitsebsk and Homel regions.
