In response to the DPRK military's entry into the war.
US President Joe Biden has lifted restrictions on US long-range weapons strikes on Russian territory, The New York Times reports.
The weapons are likely to be used against Russian and North Korean forces to defend Ukrainian forces in Kursk region, the agency's interlocutors said.
The decision by Biden, whose term ends in two months, is a major change in US policy, the publication said.
According to The New York Times sources, the authorisation for the Ukrainians to use long-range missiles was made in response to Russia's unexpected decision to bring North Korean troops into the fight, the sources said.
According to the publication, the strikes will be carried out using ATACMS missiles, which have a range of up to 190 miles (306 kilometres).
The geography of ATACMS strikes may expand later, the NYT sources said.
