Russian Foreign Minister has to board other people's planes as a passenger.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has had problems with his plane due to sanctions imposed after the war in Ukraine began.
The head of the Russian ministry said that ‘friendly’ countries refuse to refuel the board of the Rossiya special flight unit assigned to him. The minister prefers to fly on the Il-96.
Lavrov said that in 2023, when he travelled to the Republic of South Africa (RSA) to represent President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, there was ‘a big story’ about going back. ‘Because it turns out that almost all the companies there that carry out refuelling with aviation fuel, they do not belong to the country,’ Lavrov said in an interview for the New World project.’
He added that a similar problem arose during his visit to another BRICS country, Brazil. Lavrov then had to fly to a meeting with President Luiz Lula da Silva on his colleague Mauro Vieira's plane. ‘It was impossible to refuel,’ the minister complained, noting that such a situation was ’annoying.
