‘Free’ Flagpole In Vitsebsk Estimated $440 Thousand

A 69-metre flagpole was mounted on the square near the Ice Palace in Vitsebsk. During the public discussions the city administration claimed that the flagpole would not cost the city anything - they said it would be installed for sponsor's money. However, the officials did not name the sponsor.

However, the organisation of the square around the flagpole will cost the city budget a serious sum, ‘Vitsebsk Courier’ calculated.

At least seven items related to the square were published on the site of public procurement:

LED screens (1,125,069.43 rubles);

Interactive stand (129,520.51 rubles);

Benches (100,404.72 rubles);

Concrete urns (RUB 19,890.00);

Polymer concrete urns (RUB 19,890);

Concrete planters (RUB 54,450.66);

Outdoor lighting control cabinet (RUB 12,600).

All this was going to be purchased at the expense of budget funds. In total, the arrangement of the square will cost 1,461,825 rubles - that's $440 thousand.

At the same time, the tender for some purchases is still ongoing, and the end of construction has been postponed to next year. That is, the sum may become even bigger.
