And issue foreign passports to Belarusians.
Denmark will recognize expired Belarusian passports. According to Berlingske, this was announced by the country's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
In addition, Denmark will begin issuing foreign passports to Belarusian citizens.
The Lukashenka regime has banned Belarusian diplomatic representatives outside the country from exchanging expired documents, which forces Belarusians to return to their homeland and contact the Ministry of Internal Affairs to replace them. For political refugees, this creates a risk of repression and, possibly, imprisonment. Many of them solve this problem by obtaining foreign passports.
“We will provide peace of mind for Belarusians who are in Denmark, and I am very, very happy about this. It would be terrible if we told some Belarusians in Denmark that we are sorry, but they must visit Minsk to renew their passports if we know that this is a direct path to prison,” the head of the Danish Foreign Ministry said.
