The fighters have been modernised.
France plans to transfer 20 Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets to Ukraine. The deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2025.
This is reported by Avions Legendaires.
As the publication writes, now the planes are at the stage of industrial production to make them more ‘versatile’.
‘According to our various sources, between 12 and 20 Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets will be delivered by France to warring Ukraine next year. The Minister of the Armed Forces has outlined the first quarter, that is, between January 1 and March 30, 2025,’ Avions Legendaires adds.
It is noted that the Mirage 2000-5F will be transformed from pure fighters that specialise in patrolling the skies to multi-purpose aircraft for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). In particular, the fighters will be repainted in Ukrainian colours.
Another major change will be the ability to carry and fire the SCALP-EG cruise missile, which is already in service with the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
Mirage 2000-5F
The Mirage 2000-5F is a French multi-role fighter jet, which is an improved version of the Mirage 2000. The plane was developed by Dassault Aviation and is designed to perform a variety of combat missions, including interception, strikes against ground targets and air-to-air combat. The Mirage 2000-5F is equipped with advanced radar systems that allow it to detect and destroy aerial targets effectively at considerable distances.
An important feature of the Mirage 2000-5F is its manoeuvrability and speed, making it one of the most efficient fighters in its class. The plane also has improved weapon systems, including air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, which allows it to operate in a variety of combat environments.
