A native of Belarus has been sentenced in Ukraine. He was accused of collaboration - when Russian troops seized the village where he lived, the man agitated his fellow villagers to switch to the side of the Russian occupiers. The verdict was published in the register of court judgements of Ukrainian courts.
In the spring of last year, Russian troops started to seize the territories of Kharkiv region - including the village of Chkalovske in Chuhuev district, where our compatriot lived. The man, who had been living in the village for many years and had even obtained Ukrainian citizenship, started to convince the villagers that "life will be better than it was, the Russian world will make life better, there is nothing to regret", "they are here, our liberators, and everything will be fine".
During the occupation, he also agitated his fellow villagers to switch to the side of the Russian authorities.
After the liberation of the village by Ukrainian troops, a criminal case was brought against the man. He remained at large until the trial.
On September 26 of this year, the trial took place. He was found guilty under part 1 of article 111-1 (collaborationist activity) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. At the trial the man fully admitted his guilt and repented. He was sentenced to deprivation of the right to hold positions in state and local self-government bodies for 10 years without confiscation of property.
