The President of Ukraine has held talks with the Secretary General of NATO.
Ukraine's membership in NATO is not just a Ukrainian ambition, but a mechanism to ensure security throughout Europe. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this on September 28 in an evening address, the recording of which his office published on YouTube.
According to him, the talks with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Kyiv were not only about defending Ukraine [from Russian aggression], but also about the strategic defence of the entire continent.
"Ukraine deserves to become a NATO member and it will, definitely. And this is not just our Ukrainian ambition. This is the only effective security prospect for Europe, which guarantees real long-term peace," the head of state said.
Zelensky noted the effectiveness of negotiations in the format of the Ukraine-NATO Council, as well as the successful meetings he had held earlier with French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu, and the with UK Defence Minister Grant Shepps, who also visited the Ukrainian capital.
"Our key partners. Very weighty co-operation that we already have and even more weighty that we can achieve. We talked in particular about strengthening our warriors and our overall strategy to win the war. We are also working on the joint production of weapons that we need - weapons that Ukraine and our partners need," the president concluded.
