According to preliminary information, the explosion occurred near the customs warehouse of the Tashkent airport.

Local public pages say the blast wave was felt 30km from the epicentre. Tashkent residents reported in social networks about a strong fire and smashed windows in houses near the airport.

Uzbekistan's Emergency Situations Ministry said the fire occurred in the capital's Sergeli District. Rescuers say storage facilities caught fire after being struck by lightning.

"No information about cases of injuries and deaths of citizens as a result of the fire has been received yet," the ministry said.
