The US President made an official statement at a meeting with Zelensky.
US President Joe Biden has announced the first deliveries of M1 Abrams battle tanks to the Ukrainian Defence Forces. This military equipment will arrive in Ukraine next week.
The US President said this during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House on Thursday, September 21, a target="_blank" href=https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-news-09-21-23/index.html>CNN reports. Biden also announced a new aid package for the Ukrainian army.
"I agreed today on a new aid package that contains more artillery, shells, anti-tank weapons. And also next week the first Abrams tanks will be delivered to Ukraine," said Biden.
We would like to note that the USA promised to deliver Abrams tanks to Ukraine back in early 2023. In January, Biden said that the Ukrainian army would receive 31 Abrams tanks. It was planned to form a tank battalion out of them.
Politico reported on September 1 that 200 Ukrainian servicemen had completed training on Abrams tanks at training ranges in Germany. At the time, journalists said that the first ten of the 31 promised vehicles would arrive in Ukraine by mid-September 2023.
