Russian rowers were also excluded from the tournament.
Rowers from Belarus and Russia were not allowed to participate in the World Rowing Championships in Germany. According to TASS, the reason for the refusal is the impossibility of ensuring the safety of the athletes, as reported by the head coach of the Russian team, Alexander Kostoglod.
The Rowing and Canoe Sprint World Championship will be held in Duisburg from 23 to 27 August. It is a qualifying event for the Olympics 2024.
Earlier this summer, the Executive Board of the International Rowing Federation decided to allow Belarusian and Russian rowers to participate in the World Championship on a limited basis. The main condition is that they do not support Russia's war in Ukraine in any way. However, the organisers of the event in Germany decided otherwise.
