This is not the first time the memorial has been desecrated.
In Kurapaty, crosses were again desecrated, including the cross in memory of Vaclaú Lastoúski, as well as repressed Poles, writes the portal Katolik.life.
According to the publication, before the anniversary of the Night of Executed Poets (the night of October 29-30), a group of Catholic believers visited the Kurapaty memorial complex to pray for the victims of mass executions repressed in 1937, and for political prisoners who are in prison right now.
At the site, believers noticed new cases of vandalism on crosses, also on the cross in memory of Vaclaú Lastoúski, the Belarusian social and political figure, publicist, ethnographer, who was also shot as a result of Stalinist repressions in 1938.
“The word “ghoul” appeared again on Lastoúski’s cross, and on the cross in memory of the Polish victims of Soviet repression it was written “Sit within borders, Poles! Don’t forget the chopping blocks”, the believers told Katolik.life.
This is not the first time that the cross in memory of Lastoúski has been desecrated. A similar incident also occurred in May of this year, but official agencies never reported finding or punishing those responsible for the vandalism.
