The Armenian Parliament ratified the Rome Statute.
The Armenian Parliament has ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Local media reported this on October 3. The broadcast was carried out on the parliament's official website.
Only Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract faction took part in the ratification discussions. Opposition factions issued a statement and condemned the decision, noting that with such a move they are jeopardizing relations with Russia.
The Armenia and the High Honour factions left the meeting room during the discussion of the statute and did not take part in the voting, The Moscow Times reports.
The publication notes that “after the loss of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia will put Putin on the wanted list following The Hague warrant.”
“This is not a step against Russia, but is related to issues of our security,” emphasized Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He said that Armenia began the ratification process back in December 2022. “There was an unfortunate coincidence in the context of relations between Russia and the ICC,” he noted.
In March, the ICC in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on suspicion of illegal deportation of Ukrainian children. In his opinion, the CSTO has not fulfilled and is not fulfilling its obligations to the republic.
